"Eye-Tunes is an on-going series of freshly minted original works for solo piano by that extraordinary neo-renaissance figure, Mark Tanner. It deserves the highest praise. The project in total presents 100 accessible, useful and witty pieces of moderate to short length that range in style from pop to jazz, abstract to impressionistic, neo-classical to Chopinesque. The titles chosen are often witty, including 'Whole Tone Snail', 'Porta-loo Blues' and 'Lunch Pack of Notre Dame', whilst the playing from Mark Tanner himself on the accompanying CDs is of the highest quality. There are some highly perceptive and humorous performance hints in the foreword, and these include hints over phrasing, 'swing' rhythms, voicing of chords and improvisation. I applaud Tanner's plea for the would-be interpreter of his music to 'roll up your sleeves and have fun...and if you are an adult pianist returning to playing...remember that a grade three piece played with rhythmic vitality, shape and sensitivity will be so much more impressive at your next dinner party than a grade five piece fumbled-over!' Most importantly of all, Tanner's music has direct appeal, is memorable, sits well on the keyboard and under the fingers, and is colourfully conceived. Bravo in every respect."

"An inspirational and highly motivating collection of new pieces...certain to stimulate."
Atarah Ben-Tovim MBE, Chair of the BFS Council, 2009
"They will certainly stimulate the imagination and coax some very atmospheric sounds out of the piano. I would hope to find some of these piece on the C-list of an exam syllabus soon...humorous titles, harmonics, unsettling rhythms and buguiling harmonies."
Music Teacher Magazine, Fiona Lau, 2009

“A rollicking, cheeky read... Detective thriller, comedy horror, call it what you will, it is by turns elegant, crude and hilarious, packed with witty one-liners and terrible puns. The cast of characters include a ham-fisted conjuror, a microlight enthusiast with a decomposing corpse to dispose of and a classic pair of sparring police detectives.
Western Daily Press, 2010
“A thoroughly enjoyable read...rattles along at a great pace...surreal madness...weird and wonderful characters...murder and mirth ensue.”
Mensa Magazine, 2010
“Very funny…beautiful use of the English languag...a very cheeky, very naughty book.”
BBC Radio Cornwall, 2009
“A punchy black comedy…erudite daftness of the first order! Ben Elton meets Tom Sharpe, with a smidgen of Will Self into the bargain.”
Philomena Muinzer, 2009
“A very funny, very naughty book. Crude at times, elegant at others, Tanner successfully bridges the gap. So good, I read it three times!”
Amazon, 2009
“Zany or what! A detective novel? Well sort of, but not a Whodunnit. It is the characters that make it. Amazingly inventive. The Young Ones meet Monty Python and the Goons. You may need a dictionary at times - it will seriously enlarge your knowledge of adjectives.”
Waterstones, 2010
“This book is a pleasure to read and very, very funny. It is full of beautifully drawn comic characters and the clever use of language will have you laughing out loud. You become drawn into this exaggerated and yet completely plausible and recognisable parallel England and the story sweeps you along at breakneck speed. One of those books where you wish it didn't end. If you're a fan of Carl Hiaasen, this is one for you.”
